Samurai Karate Studio
currently offers a special needs class for children
and teens that fall on the autism spectrum.
The classes are held twice a week,
on Tuesday and Thursday, from 4:15pm to 4:45pm.
The purpose of this class, is to
offer students on the autism spectrum an opportunity
to burn off some energy using a combination of
cardio and strength conditioning exercises; as well
as introduce them to basic self defense techniques.
Depending on the severity of the
student, the curriculum will be developed to meet
the specific needs of the student. In those
cases were the student is very young, or the student
falls low on the spectrum, a shadow may necessary
and provided by the family.
Sensei Feldt initiated this
program, after working with a severely autistic
teenage boy, who was non-verbal. After several
months, the student developed better focus and
listening and was having fun during class.
The ultimate goal, is to help
integrate these students into a regular class when
they are ready.
